“montan.dok 21” is a research project that delves deeper into the history of the museum collections retained by the Montanhistorisches Dokumentationszentrum (montan.dok), and its inventories are recorded and analysed. The diversity of the material mining heritage in our collections ranges from large machines to a statue of St. Barbara, from a company brochure to a watch presented as an anniversary gift. All the objects relate the history of mining in a myriad of ways.
The Object of the Month is the shop window for our research into collections and objects. The researchers engaged in this project examine sample artefacts covering a range of material properties, sectors of industry, and periods of mining history. At the same time, they afford a glimpse into the various collections held by the montan.dok – in the Mining Archive of Bochum, the library/photo library as well as the museum collections themselves.
